Avery, your release on the feed was quick today. A quick release gets the ball there before the slide does. Next, protect your stick in traffic. Keep it tight to your helmet so a check can't reach it. You were first to every ground ball. Possession starts there.

Lacrosse FAQ

Questions lacrosse
coaches and parents ask.

Rate specific skills one at a time, on one scale for every player. Rate what holds up at game speed. Then name one strength and one skill to work on next. Repeat it through the season so the ratings show growth. UpLVL tracks 37 lacrosse skills this way.
UpLVL rates every player in four areas. Technical, such as stick skills, cradling, ball handling and passing. Tactical, such as field vision, positioning and off-ball movement. Physical, such as speed & acceleration, agility & change of direction and athleticism. Mental, such as attitude, coachability and communication.
Young players start with a few broad skills. Each one splits in two as they improve. Stick Skills splits into Cradling (Both Hands) and Catching. Passing splits into Passing Accuracy & Lead and Passing Under Pressure. Shooting splits into Shot Accuracy & Placement and Shot Velocity & Variation. Dodging splits into Split Dodge and Roll Dodge & Combinations. Ground Balls & Transition splits into Ground Balls and Transition & Lane Filling. Defense splits into Positioning & Stick and Slides & Team Defense.
Under USA Lacrosse rules, body checking is illegal in boys lacrosse at 12U and below and starts at 14U. It is never legal in the girls game. Girls have no checking of any kind at 10U and under. UpLVL follows these rules. Your team will not see checking skills or checking drills until it reaches the age.
Start with these drills: Basic Cradle (stick skills), Two-Hand to One-Hand Switch (cradling), Figure-8 Cradle (ball handling), Partner Toss (passing), Stationary Shot (shooting). All of them are free and each has a diagram.
Ratings on specific skills in four areas: technical, tactical, physical and mental. Add one strength, one skill to work on next, and a drill for it. The free UpLVL evaluation form covers all 37 lacrosse skills.
