How it works

Develop fundamental passing mechanics through repetitive partner passing at short distance.

What you need

  • lacrosse stick
  • lacrosse ball

Your focus

Short-distance partner passing builds the arm-wrist-stick mechanics of the overhand pass in a pressure-free environment. High repetition at short range builds muscle memory before distance and accuracy demands are added.

1

Partners stand 6 yards apart.

2

Player passes with a full overhand throw: step with the opposite foot, pull top hand, push bottom hand.

3

Partner catches and immediately returns.

4

Complete 40 passes each player without stopping. Move back 2 yards when 80% accuracy is achieved.

Goal

You've got it when your partner catches 8 out of 10 without having to reach or adjust, the pass goes to them, not near them.

Helpful cues

  • Step with the foot opposite your throwing hand
  • Pull the top hand down to drive the pass
  • Follow through, your stick should point to your target after the pass

Adjust the challenge

Make it easier

Strip it back

Use an underhand toss to reduce technique complexity; progress to overhand.

UpLVL it

Add the next challenge

Pass while moving laterally; partner must also move to receive.

This library helps you find the right drill. Inside UpLVL the right drill finds the player.

After every practice, UpLVL automatically surfaces the drills each player needs to work on most. See it for yourself.
