Your focus
Clearing failures happen at the worst moments. Training recovery , resetting from a chaotic turnover into organized defense , prevents the compounding damage of a clear turnover turning into an easy goal.
Start with clearing unit in a broken situation: ball carrier has just been checked near midfield.
Ball is now loose or in a rider's possession deep in the clearing zone.
Clearing unit must immediately sprint back, communicate, and set up a zone or player-to-player defense within 5 seconds.
Riders get a 10-second advantage before the defense is allowed to check. Run 6 broken-clear recovery reps.
Goal
It's clicking when your team reorganizes after the broken clear and prevents a shot, the recovery itself becomes a defensive success, not just survival.
Helpful cues
- First priority after a clear turnover: get between the ball and the goal
- Call out who has the ball-side slide immediately
- Don't ball-watch, get to your defensive assignment
