Avery, your platform was steady on serve receive today. A steady platform gives the setter a good ball. Next, swing your arm faster on the attack. A fast arm puts pace on the ball. You read the hitter early on defense. That gets you to the ball in time.

Volleyball FAQ

Questions volleyball
coaches and parents ask.

Rate specific skills one at a time, on one scale for every player. Rate what holds up at game speed. Then name one strength and one skill to work on next. Repeat it through the season so the ratings show growth. UpLVL tracks 26 volleyball skills this way.
UpLVL rates every player in four areas. Technical, such as serving, passing, attacking and defense. Tactical, such as readiness and decision-making. Physical, such as speed & acceleration, agility & change of direction and athleticism. Mental, such as attitude, coachability and communication.
Young players start with a few broad skills. Each one splits in two as they improve. Serving splits into Float Serve and Jump Serve. Passing splits into Platform Passing (Bump) and Setting. Attacking splits into Arm Swing & Contact and Shot Selection & Tactics. Defense splits into Digging and Blocking.
Start with these drills: Underhand Serve Fundamentals (serving), Forearm Platform Builder (passing), Arm Swing Basics (attacking), Dig-and-Chase (defense), Ready Position Freeze (readiness). All of them are free and each has a diagram.
