How it works
Practice the basic ground ball scoop mechanics and immediately sprint with the ball to a cone.
What you need
- lacrosse stick
- lacrosse ball
- cones
Your focus
Ground ball technique , low stick, bent knees, scoop through , must be automatic by the time competition begins. Pairing the scoop with an immediate sprint teaches players that picking up the ball is only the first action.
Coach rolls ball 5 yards in front of the player.
Player runs to ball, gets low, scoops through, and sprints to a cone 10 yards past the ball.
Player cradles to the cone and returns.
Complete 10 scoops each player.
Goal
You've got it when you scoop clean, no bobble, no second attempt, and your feet are already moving to the cone before the ball settles in the pocket.
Helpful cues
- Get your knees low, your stick can't get the ball if you're standing up
- Scoop through the ball, not at it
- Sprint right after the scoop, don't slow down to look at the ball
Adjust the challenge
Make it easier
Strip it back
Ball is stationary (placed, not rolled); player practices scoop motion only.UpLVL it
Add the next challenge
Ball is rolled at an angle; player must adjust their path to the ball.No account needed
Build a practice plan
Add drills, keep the plan in this browser, then share a link with your staff or parents. This library helps you find the right drill. Inside UpLVL the right drill finds the player.
After every practice, UpLVL automatically surfaces the drills each player needs to work on most. See it for yourself.
