Field Vision
Legend

- ball
- movement path
How it works
Develop the ability to scan all three zones of the field (behind, beside, and ahead) before making a pass.
What you need
- lacrosse stick
- lacrosse ball
- cones
- goal
Your focus
Elite field vision requires 360-degree awareness, not just vision of what is directly ahead. Training players to scan all three zones before acting expands their decision pool and prevents blindside turnovers.
Ball carrier receives a pass at the midfield line.
Before passing, player must verbally identify one player in each zone: behind them, beside them, and ahead of them.
Player then makes the best pass based on what they saw.
Coach tracks which zone passes most often lead to good outcomes. Run 8 reps per player.
Goal
Success is scanning all three zones before every pass, you should be able to describe what's happening behind you as well as in front.
Helpful cues
- Scan before you catch, not after
- Three zones means three options minimum; pick the best one
- The zone behind you is the one that causes blindside turnovers, always check it
