Your focus
A check is only valuable if it leads to possession. Training the check-to-transition sequence builds defensive completeness and teaches players to think offensively the moment they make a defensive play.
1v1 starts at midfield. Defender aims to dislodge the ball with a legal stick check.
On dislodge, a 3-second clock starts. Defender must scoop and deliver an outlet pass to a waiting teammate.
If the pass is made within 3 seconds, the team earns a fast-break 2v1.
Run 6 reps alternating roles.
Goal
You're there when you check, recover the ball, and deliver the outlet pass within 3 seconds of the dislodge, the whole sequence feels connected, not stop-and-start.
Helpful cues
- See the loose ball before you finish the check motion
- Scoop through and look up simultaneously
- Your outlet target should already be running before you pick up the ball
