Jada, your handle held up under pressure today. A low dribble keeps the defender off the ball. Next, finish with your left hand. It keeps the ball away from the shot blocker. Your help defense was great all game. You were early every time.

Basketball FAQ

Questions basketball
coaches and parents ask.

Rate specific skills one at a time, on one scale for every player. Rate what holds up at game speed. Then name one strength and one skill to work on next. Repeat it through the season so the ratings show growth. UpLVL tracks 28 basketball skills this way.
UpLVL rates every player in four areas. Technical, such as ball handling, shooting, finishing and passing & court vision. Tactical, such as shot selection, spacing and decision-making. Physical, such as speed & acceleration, agility & change of direction and athleticism. Mental, such as attitude, coachability and communication.
Young players start with a few broad skills. Each one splits in two as they improve. Ball Handling splits into Primary Hand Control and Weak Hand & Dribble Moves. Shooting splits into Catch & Shoot and Off-Dribble Shooting. Finishing splits into Layup Package and Contact Finishing. Defense splits into On-Ball Defense and Help Defense & Rebounding.
Start with these drills: Pound Dribble in Place (ball handling), Form Shooting Close Range (shooting), Mikan Drill (finishing), Partner Chest Pass Wall Drill (passing & court vision), Defensive Stance ABC (defense). All of them are free and each has a diagram.
Ratings on specific skills in four areas: technical, tactical, physical and mental. Add one strength, one skill to work on next, and a drill for it. The free UpLVL evaluation form covers all 28 basketball skills.
