How it works
Develop the short, accurate outlet pass a goalie makes immediately after a save, the first step of a clear.
What you need
- lacrosse stick
- lacrosse ball
- wall or partner
- cone (target)
Your focus
A stopped shot that turns into a slow outlet is a turnover. Goalies who release a quick, crisp pass within 2 seconds reset the offense before the ride sets.
Stand in your crease. Hold the stick in your save grip, cradle head near your ear.
Step out of the crease toward your target (cone or wall) and snap a two-hand outlet pass.
Focus on a short, firm wrist snap, not a full throw. Aim for chest-height.
Catch the return (or go get the rebound), reset to crease, repeat x15 each side.
Goal
You've got it when your outlet pass lands in your teammate's stick, not forcing them to reach, run, or adjust. The pass does the work.
Helpful cues
- Step THROUGH the pass, don't stay planted
- Snap the wrists, lead with your top elbow
- Aim for the hands, not the stick
