How it works
Learn the face dodge mechanics in a freeze-frame format against a stationary coach.
What you need
- lacrosse stick
- lacrosse ball
Your focus
Breaking the face dodge into a freeze-frame teaches the essential mechanics , crossing the stick in front of the face and accelerating through , before adding movement complexity.
Coach stands still as a stationary 'defender' with a stick raised.
Player approaches at walking pace, crosses their stick in front of their face past the coach's stick.
Coach calls 'freeze!' player holds the dodge position so coach can check mechanics.
Player accelerates past and cradles away. Repeat 8 times.
Goal
You've got it when you pull the stick across your face and switch hands in one motion, no bobble, no pause in the middle of the dodge.
Helpful cues
- Cross the stick close to your face, the closer, the harder to check
- Switch hands at the moment you cross
- Accelerate after the cross, that's when the dodge works
