Ground Ball to 2v1
Ground Balls & Transition
Legend

How it works
Win a contested ground ball as part of a two-player unit and immediately execute a 2v1 fast break.
What you need
- lacrosse stick
- lacrosse ball
- cones
- goal
Your focus
Most fast breaks begin from a ground ball win. Training the direct connection between the ground ball and the fast break creates the urgency and execution speed teams need in transition situations.
Two offensive players compete against one defender for a loose ball.
If offense wins, they immediately run a 2v1 against a different single defender toward goal.
If defense wins, they clear the ball and earn a point.
Run 8 reps. Track fast break conversion rate.
Goal
Success is winning the ground ball and completing the 2v1 with a score, the transition should feel connected, not two separate events.
Helpful cues
- Ground ball winner: call for your teammate immediately, don't stare at the ball
- Trailing teammate: break toward goal as soon as you see your partner scoop
- 2v1 fast break is an advantage, convert it
