How it works

Win possession in a multi-player scramble situation and immediately organize a fast break against a recovering defense.

What you need

  • lacrosse stick
  • lacrosse ball
  • cones
  • goal
  • pinnies

Your focus

Game ground balls are rarely clean 1v1 situations , they typically involve multiple bodies, stick clashes, and unpredictable bounces. Training in chaos scenarios builds the situational awareness and possession instincts needed in real transition moments.

1

Coach rolls or dumps 2 balls at midfield. All 12 players (6v6) compete for both balls simultaneously.

2

Team that wins both balls immediately goes on a full-field fast break.

3

Team that wins one ball controls that ball; team with no ball plays defense.

4

Possession plays out to a shot. Coach restarts with new balls after each possession.

Goal

It's clicking when you come out of the scramble with the ball and immediate direction, no confusion, just possession and movement.

Helpful cues

  • In chaos, go to the ball, don't wait to see what happens
  • Two balls means two decisions happening at the same time, communicate with your team
  • The first team to organize after the ground ball chaos wins the possession

Adjust the challenge

Make it easier

Strip it back

Reduce to 4v4 to simplify the chaos.

UpLVL it

Add the next challenge

Coach rolls four balls simultaneously; any team controlling three of four earns a power play.
