Nico, your level change on the shot was good today. Getting low first makes the shot hard to stop. Next, build your base faster on bottom. Every escape starts from a strong base. You won the hand fight all match. That set up your attacks.

Wrestling FAQ

Questions wrestling
coaches and parents ask.

Rate specific skills one at a time, on one scale for every player. Rate what holds up at game speed. Then name one strength and one skill to work on next. Repeat it through the season so the ratings show growth. UpLVL tracks 28 wrestling skills this way.
UpLVL rates every wrestler in four areas. Technical, such as neutral attacks, hand fighting, top control and bottom wrestling. Tactical, such as mat awareness, scramble awareness and pressure. Physical, such as speed & acceleration, agility & change of direction and athleticism. Mental, such as attitude, coachability and communication & teamwork.
Young players start with a few broad skills. Each one splits in two as they improve. Neutral Attacks splits into Level Change & Setup and Shot Finish. Top Control splits into Breakdowns & Pressure and Turns & Near-Fall Threats. Bottom Wrestling splits into Escapes and Reversals.
Start with these drills: Level Change and Penetration Step Intro (neutral attacks), Wrist Tag Game (hand fighting), Hip Cover Freeze Tag (top control), Sit-Out Introduction (bottom wrestling), Takedown Finish Progression (chain wrestling). All of them are free and each has a diagram.
