How it works
Learn the basic shooting mechanics from a stationary position close to the goal.
What you need
- lacrosse stick
- lacrosse ball
- goal
Your focus
Shooting mechanics are best introduced at close range with a stationary start. Success experiences at close range build confidence and establish the correct mechanical foundation before distance and movement are added.
Player stands 5 yards from goal directly in front.
Coach hands the player a ball already in their stick.
Player steps with the opposite foot and shoots with full follow-through.
Repeat 10 shots, focusing on mechanics over power.
Goal
You've got it when the ball goes in or hits the frame with pace, not a gentle toss, but a real shot with intent. Aim for a corner.
Helpful cues
- Step toward the goal with the foot opposite your throwing hand
- Pull the top hand through the shot
- Follow through, your stick points to where you aimed after the shot
