How it works
Score in a 1v1 live shooting situation against a goalkeeper with an active close-out defender.
What you need
- lacrosse stick
- lacrosse ball
- goal
- pinnies
Your focus
Live-game shooting requires decision-making (shot placement based on goalie position), physicality (shooting through defensive pressure), and precision (placing the ball away from the goalie's strength). All three demand advanced shooting under real pressure.
Ball carrier starts at the restraining box. A close-out defender begins at the midfield line.
Ball carrier drives to the shooting position. Defender closes out at full speed.
Ball carrier must shoot before the defender arrives or attempt a dodge if they can.
Goalie plays live. Run 8 reps for each player. Track goals and shot selection quality.
Goal
It's clicking when you create a clean look against both the on-ball defender and the goalkeeper, beating one isn't enough, both have to be beaten for the goal.
Helpful cues
- Read the goalie before the defender closes, set your shot early
- If the defender arrives first, dodge, don't force a contested shot
- Shoot when you have the lane; pass when you don't, never panic
