How it works
Make the correct clearing decision under ride pressure, choose between a safe short outlet, a long push to a breaking midfielder, or carrying the ball yourself.
What you need
- lacrosse stick
- lacrosse ball
- cones
- 2 partners or cone targets
Your focus
Advanced clearing is a three-option read under real-game time pressure. Goalies who can make this in under 2 seconds become a weapon in transition.
Coach simulates a save, goalie picks up at the crease.
Two cone targets (or players): one at wing (short), one at midfield (long).
Coach calls 'ride', one target is 'covered'. Goalie must read and choose.
If both are covered, goalie carries to the restraining line and looks again. 15 reps.
Goal
It's clicking when you make the right decision, short, long, or carry, based on what the ride gives you, not what feels safest. Correct read, confident execution.
Helpful cues
- Decision should happen before you pick up the ball, pre-scan
- Carrying is always your last option, not your first
- Communicate the clear before you release, voice helps teammates time their breaks
