How it works
Learn the basic offensive positions on the lacrosse field by walking to each one and naming it.
What you need
- lacrosse stick
- cones
- goal
Your focus
Young players cannot position themselves correctly if they do not know where the positions are. Walking the field and naming each position creates the spatial vocabulary needed for all future positional instruction.
Coach sets up cones at each offensive position: three attackers, three midfielders.
Coach names a position; players walk to that cone.
Coach explains what each position is responsible for in one sentence.
Remove the cones and ask players to find their positions without landmarks.
Goal
You've got it when you can walk to each position and name it, and name the job of the person next to you.
Helpful cues
- Attack stays near the goal, you're the primary scorers
- Midfielders connect defense to offense, you're the bridges
- Spread out! If you're standing next to a teammate, one of you is in the wrong spot
