How it works
Connect a double-leg takedown with an immediate leg ride to teach continuous wrestling from takedown to control.
What you need
- wrestling mat
Your focus
Wrestlers who score a takedown and then disengage have broken the chain and given the opponent time to recover or escape. Linking the double leg directly to a leg ride instills the habit of controlling after scoring, which leads to additional points through near-falls and tilts. Training the transition removes the mental pause that allows opponents to recover.
Start in referee's position drill from standing, wrestler shoots a double-leg takedown with a cooperative partner.
As soon as the takedown is complete and the opponent hits the mat, immediately lace one leg and establish leg ride control.
Maintain the leg ride for 5 seconds, then reset and repeat.
Complete 5 reps per side focusing on the seamless transition between takedown and control.
Goal
It's clicking when the leg ride follows the double-leg without a gap, takedown finishes and the ride is already on.
Helpful cues
- The takedown is just the beginning, follow them to the mat
- Lace the leg before they can base out
- No stopping between the score and the control
