How it works

Develop a technically sound double-leg takedown finish through repetitive cooperative drilling with a partner.

What you need

  • wrestling mat

Your focus

The double-leg is the most foundational takedown in wrestling and the one most wrestlers will rely on across their careers. Repetitive cooperative drilling builds the muscle memory for correct grip, head position, and drive mechanics without the chaos of live wrestling. Wrestlers who establish a technically sound double-leg finish early have a reliable scoring weapon they can always trust.

1

Attacker begins in a tied-up position with both arms wrapping partner's thighs above the knee.

2

Attacker drives head to the outside of partner's hip, steps up between partner's legs, and drives forward.

3

Partner falls cooperatively to the mat as attacker completes the takedown to a controlling top position.

4

Alternate roles every 5 reps; complete 4 sets of 10 reps each per wrestler.

Goal

It's clicking when your double-leg finish drives through to the mat without stopping at their waist, finish all the way through.

Helpful cues

  • Head to the outside, not in the middle of their legs
  • Drive through with your hips, not just your arms
  • Finish with your chest on their thigh, stay tight

Adjust the challenge

Make it easier

Strip it back

Begin with attacker already in the grip position (skip the shot entry) and drill only the finish.

UpLVL it

Add the next challenge

Add the penetration step entry from a collar tie, making the drill a full double-leg sequence.
