How it works
Develop game-speed catch-and-shoot mechanics from three different spots on the floor.
What you need
- basketball
- hoop
- rebounder
Your focus
Most shooting drills are stationary, but game shooting requires catching while moving and shooting immediately. The 3-spot drill builds the habit of catching in shooting position , feet set, hands ready, eyes to target , before the ball arrives. Players who master this skill become reliable spot-up shooters.
Rebounder passes out to player at wing, top, or other wing in random sequence.
Player must have feet moving toward the spot before the pass arrives, then set and shoot.
Focus: feet moving toward spot, hands ready for catch, eyes to rim before the ball arrives.
Make 3 from each spot per round. Complete 4 rounds.
Goal
It's working when you catch and shoot in one fluid motion from all three spots, no extra dribble, no gathering. Catch and fire.
Helpful cues
- Feet moving before the pass, not after the catch
- Hands ready means the ball goes up immediately on the catch
- Eyes to rim before you receive, pre-aim before you catch
