Your focus
The chest pass is the most fundamental passing skill in basketball. Young players who develop correct mechanics , step into the pass, thumbs down on release, target the chest , make far fewer turnovers and create more effective offensive possessions. Repetition at this age builds the muscle memory that lasts a lifetime.
Two players stand 8 feet apart facing each other.
Player passes with two hands from chest: step, extend, thumbs turn down on release.
Receiver catches with fingers spread and gives a chest target with both hands.
Complete 20 consecutive passes each without a miss. Count out loud to build focus.
Goal
You've got it when your partner catches 10 in a row at chest height without adjusting, crisp, accurate, repeatable.
Helpful cues
- Step to your target, don't pass with your feet flat
- Thumbs down means the ball goes straight, try it!
