How it works
Develop the court vision habit of seeing the entire floor while dribbling and executing passes to non-obvious targets.
What you need
- basketball
Your focus
Elite passers don't look at the obvious receiver , they read the defense and find the player who is most open. Training the eyes-up habit while dribbling allows players to see the whole court and deliver no-look or non-telegraphed passes that defenses cannot anticipate. This is what separates play-making guards from ball-dominant ones.
Player dribbles at the top of the key. Three teammates are positioned around the arc.
Coach stands behind the player and holds up fingers. Player must call out the number while maintaining the dribble.
When coach points at a teammate, player must pass to that teammate with a no-look pass (eyes forward, pass sideways).
Track accuracy on no-look passes. Complete 15 reps.
Goal
Success is making 3 consecutive passes to the non-obvious target, you saw the whole floor and found the better option, not just the easy one.
Helpful cues
- Eyes see the whole floor, not just your next receiver
- Peripheral vision is a skill, practice it deliberately
- The defense reads your eyes: don't show them where the ball is going
