Your focus
Crowding is the most common offensive mistake in youth basketball. When 5 players cluster together, the defense can cover everyone. Teaching players to fill the court , one player per zone , opens driving lanes and passing angles. Spacing is the foundation that every offensive system is built on.
Place 5 cones at: both corners, both wings, and top of the key.
Assign one player to each cone. They may not move more than 3 feet from their cone.
Ball handler drives or passes, testing whether the spacing makes lanes available.
Debrief: What happened when everyone was spread out? What happens when they crowd?
Goal
You've got it when all five players are spread to the five spots and no two are in the same area, the court looks big, not small.
Helpful cues
- One player per spot, the floor is big enough for all of us
- Spread out like you're trying to create space, not share space
- If you can reach a teammate without moving, you're too close
Adjust the challenge
Make it easier
Strip it back
Mark player positions on the floor with tape so they can't leave their spot.UpLVL it
Add the next challenge
Players can move between spots, must maintain proper spacing dynamically. No account needed
Build a practice plan
Add drills, keep the plan in this browser, then share a link with your staff or parents. This library helps you find the right drill. Inside UpLVL the right drill finds the player.
After every practice, UpLVL automatically surfaces the drills each player needs to work on most. See it for yourself.
