How it works
Apply elite-level court vision and passing in a scrimmage where assists and hockey assists are valued over individual scoring.
What you need
- basketball
- hoop
- full court
Your focus
Playmakers who see the pass before it's obvious create the most efficient offense in basketball. Rewarding assists and pre-assists (hockey assists) in scrimmage gives playmakers permission to prioritize vision over scoring and trains the entire team to value ball movement. This mindset shift produces exponentially better offensive systems.
Play 5v5 full-court scrimmage. Scoring: basket = 2 pts, assist = 3 pts, hockey assist (pass that leads to assist) = 1 pt.
Only direct shooting is penalized by the new scoring, all other scoring rewards passing and vision.
After each made basket, trace the sequence: who had the hockey assist and who had the assist?
Most total team points wins. Post individual assist counts after each game.
Goal
It's clicking when your assist and hockey assist numbers climb through the scrimmage, you're generating advantages for others, and the scoring reflects it.
Helpful cues
- The extra pass creates the extra advantage
- Find the best shot, not the first shot
- Court vision is not about seeing passes, it's about creating them
