How it works
Execute a structured 3-person serve-receive passing system with zone assignments, communication calls, and target accuracy.

Your focus
Serve receive is won or lost by system clarity , who takes what ball and who calls it. Without a practiced system, players collide, leave seams uncovered, or freeze on border balls. Drilling the system builds automatic communication and spatial awareness that holds up under live serving pressure.
Set three passers in a W-serve-receive formation: Zones 5, 6, and 1. Each passer is responsible for a designated zone marked by floor tape.
A server delivers float serves and jump serves alternating between zones. Each passer calls 'mine' immediately to claim the ball.
All passes target the setter at Zone 3; coach tracks 'system passes' (pass within 6 feet of setter) versus 'chaos passes' (no call, collision, or miss).
After 20 serves, shift to a 2-player receive system with larger zones to challenge communication further.
Goal
You're there when your zone coverage is automatic and your passes land within 5 feet of the setter target, system passing means accuracy under pressure.
Helpful cues
- Call it early, 'mine' before the ball crosses the net
- Seam balls belong to the passer moving forward
- System first, then technique, knowing where to be is as important as how to pass
