How it works
Teach correct defensive base positioning and lateral shuffle movement to each defensive zone before ball contact.

Your focus
Defensive positioning errors , being in the wrong place before the ball is attacked , cause more defensive breakdowns than poor dig technique. Practicing the base-to-zone shuffle routine builds the automatic positioning habit that ensures players are in the right place before technique matters. Players who know their defensive responsibilities move with purpose rather than reacting late.
Mark 6 defensive positions on one side of the court with cones; players start in base position (middle of their respective zones).
Coach calls a court zone (e.g., 'Zone 1 attack!'): all six players shuffle to their designated defensive positions for that attack angle within 2 seconds.
Coach tosses a ball to the designated zone; the responsible player digs while others hold their coverage position.
Repeat with 10 random zone calls; evaluate players who are consistently late to their coverage position.
Goal
It's clicking when you're in the right zone before the ball is set, your read got you there, not your reaction.
