How it works
Develop consistent platform angle and directional control by self-tossing and directing digs to specific target cones.

Your focus
Most volleyball defense drills measure whether you got the ball up , not where it went. This drill forces directional precision, training the angle of your platform and the weight transfer that controls dig direction. Without a partner, every rep demands full focus.
Place 3 cones in a fan ahead of you: one center, one left, one right, about 4 yards away.
Toss the ball underhand to yourself at waist height and dig with a flat platform, aiming at the center cone.
Chase the ball, reset ready stance, and toss again, this time aim at the left cone.
On the third toss, aim at the right cone. That is 1 cycle.
Complete 5 cycles. Track how many digs land within 1 yard of the target cone.
Goal
You've got it when at least 4 out of 5 digs land within 1 yard of your called target cone.
Helpful cues
- Angle your platform toward the target before contact, not after
- Weight transfers through the ball in the direction you're aiming
- Don't swing your arms, use your legs to push through contact
- Watch where the ball goes after contact, that tells you what your platform did
Adjust the challenge
Make it easier
Strip it back
Use only the center cone. Just focus on a consistent flat platform and consistent height.UpLVL it
Add the next challenge
Increase toss speed or toss the ball to your side so you have to move into position before the dig. Add a fourth cone behind you for a tip-response dig.No account needed
