How it works
Evaluate and improve serve-receive efficiency under full-speed live serving by using a real-time pass rating system.

Your focus
Rating each pass (0–3 scale) in real time trains players to develop objective self-awareness rather than vague feelings about their passing quality. Data-driven feedback accelerates technical correction and creates accountability. Advanced passers must be able to self-evaluate accurately to make in-game adjustments independently.
Use a 0–3 passing scale: 0 = ace, 1 = no attack, 2 = limited attack options, 3 = perfect pass. Post the scale on the sideline.
One passer receives 15 live serves from two servers alternating between hard float and topspin.
After each pass, the passer calls out their own rating before anyone else speaks. Coach confirms or adjusts.
Calculate the passer's efficiency score (total points / maximum 45); goal is 2.2 or higher per USAV competitive standards.
Goal
It's real when your rating improves across the session, early average vs. late average tells you if the drill is working.
Helpful cues
- Honest self-rating is how you improve fastest
- Platform stops at the ball, no follow-through needed on a good pass
- Reading the serve is half the pass, where are your eyes before the toss?
Adjust the challenge

Strip it back
Use a simplified 0–2 scale (bad/good/perfect) to reduce cognitive load while building the habit.UpLVL it
Add the next challenge
Run the drill with two live passers competing and serving out of system (serve to the seam) to add communication and competition simultaneously. No account needed
Build a practice plan
Add drills, keep the plan in this browser, then share a link with your staff or parents. This library helps you find the right drill. Inside UpLVL the right drill finds the player.
After every practice, UpLVL automatically surfaces the drills each player needs to work on most. See it for yourself.
