How it works
Train wrestlers to make rapid tie-up decisions based on hand position and grip reactions from their opponent.
What you need
- wrestling mat
Your focus
The tie-up is wrestling's opening exchange, and the ability to make fast decisions there sets the tone for the entire match. Wrestlers who know how to read and react to grip fights avoid being controlled and generate their own offensive opportunities. Decision speed in the tie-up is a trainable skill with immediate match impact.
Both wrestlers start in collar-elbow tie-up.
Partner applies one of three actions: pull down, push, or snap and go behind.
Working wrestler reacts with the correct counter: pull down = level change, push = go-behind, snap = duck under.
Coach scores reaction time and technical accuracy, ten reps per action.
Goal
It's clicking when your tie-up decision comes from what you feel, not what you planned, hands respond to your partner's grip.
Helpful cues
