How it works
Give young wrestlers an early, successful takedown experience to build foundational confidence in their ability to score.

Your focus
Confidence in young athletes is built through early success experiences that feel authentic. Setting up a structured drill where the child successfully completes a takedown , even with cooperative resistance , creates a positive emotional anchor. This anchor becomes the belief system they draw on when facing real opponents.
Partner kneels in a passive stance and allows the wrestler to set up a simple single-leg.
Wrestler completes the takedown with full finish, bring partner to the space.
Coach celebrates the finish loudly and specifically ('Great leg control, you owned that!').
Repeat three times, then increase partner resistance slightly on the fourth rep.
