How it works
Build finishing confidence by drilling the final phase of a takedown repeatedly until completion feels automatic.
What you need
- wrestling mat
Your focus
Many wrestlers shoot good shots but lack the confidence to finish when a partner defends. Drilling the finish in isolation removes the complexity of the setup and builds certainty in the completion phase. Confident finishers score more takedowns because they don't hesitate when they feel resistance.
Wrestler starts with a locked single-leg, the shot is already in and locked.
Partner stands and provides defensive resistance (whizzer, sprawl pressure).
Wrestler drives through and completes the finish using a running the pipe, lift, or trip.
Ten reps per leg; coach emphasizes finishing drive and low hips throughout.
Goal
It's clicking when finishing the shot feels automatic, you don't stop at their hips, you drive through to the mat.
Helpful cues
- Run through the finish line
- lower position wins, stay low on the finish
- The shot is only half, the finish is everything
