How it works

Develop elite coachability by reviewing video of a match or drilling session, identifying corrections, and immediately drilling the improved version.

What you need

  • wrestling mat

Your focus

Elite-level coachability requires the ability to receive nuanced, detailed feedback across multiple technique points and translate that into adjusted physical execution. Film review accelerates learning by making errors visible and concrete rather than conceptual. The immediate drill response after film review shortens the learning loop that separates elite athletes from average ones.

1

Wrestler and coach review 3-5 minutes of match or practice footage, pausing to identify two to three specific technical errors.

2

Coach explains the correction for each identified error in detail.

3

Wrestler immediately goes to the space and drills the corrected version of each technique for 10 reps each.

4

If available, re-film the drill reps and compare to the original footage with the wrestler.

Helpful cues

  • See it, understand it, feel it, in that order
  • The drill after film isn't optional, it's where the learning happens
  • If you can identify it on film, you can fix it on the mat

Adjust the challenge

Make it easier

Strip it back

Focus on only one error per film session to reduce cognitive load.

UpLVL it

Add the next challenge

Wrestler reviews film independently first and arrives with their own correction list for the coach to evaluate.
