How it works
Build self-awareness as a component of coachability by having wrestlers evaluate their own technique before receiving coach feedback.

Your focus
Coachability is not just about receiving external feedback , it includes the ability to self-assess accurately and seek out needed corrections proactively. Wrestlers who can identify their own errors become self-coached in competition when no coach can reach them. Practicing honest self-assessment closes the loop between knowing what to do and recognizing when you're not doing it.
After a drilling block of 5 reps of any technique, wrestlers stop and answer two questions: 'What did I do well?' and 'What do I need to fix?'
Each wrestler shares their self-assessment with the coach briefly.
Coach confirms, corrects, or adds to the self-assessment and gives the next focus point.
Wrestlers drill 5 more reps incorporating the self-identified and coach-added corrections.
Helpful cues
- Be honest with yourself, no one gets better by thinking they're already good
- If you don't know what to fix, you're not watching yourself carefully enough
- A good self-assessment sounds like a coach, specific, not vague
