How it works

Build volleyball-specific conditioning that combines explosive bursts with active recovery movements.

What you need

  • cones
  • volleyball
  • court

Your focus

Volleyball requires repeated explosive efforts , jumps, sprints, dives , separated by brief recovery periods. General conditioning drills that don't mirror this pattern fail to prepare athletes for the sport's demands. This circuit matches the work-to-rest ratio of real rallies and builds sport-specific endurance.

1

Set up a 5-station circuit around the court: (1) 5 approach jumps, (2) lateral shuffle sideline to sideline x3, (3) 10 squat jumps, (4) sprint from end line to net and back x2, (5) 10 defensive slide steps each direction.

2

Players work for 30 seconds at each station, then move immediately to the next.

3

After completing all 5 stations (2.5 minutes total), rest 90 seconds.

4

Complete 3 full circuits.

5

Coach tracks completion quality and encourages maximum effort at each station.

Goal

You're there when you stay sharp on the last station of the circuit, your effort at the end should match your effort at the beginning.

Helpful cues

  • Push intensity for the full 30 seconds
  • Quality over speed, don't sacrifice form for reps
  • Recovery starts the moment you finish, breathe actively

Adjust the challenge

Make it easier

Strip it back

Reduce each station to 20 seconds and add 30 seconds of rest between stations.

UpLVL it

Add the next challenge

Add ball contacts at stations 1 and 4 (pass a ball before next jump/sprint).

This library helps you find the right drill. Inside UpLVL the right drill finds the player.

After every practice, UpLVL automatically surfaces the drills each player needs to work on most. See it for yourself.
