Your focus
Volleyball is a jumping sport, and teaching proper landing mechanics early prevents injury while building the foundation for future explosive movements. The 'stick' landing trains deceleration control and body awareness. Safe jumping habits formed young carry through an athlete's entire career.
Players stand on the end line with feet shoulder-width apart.
Coach demonstrates a two-foot jump with a 'stick' landing: soft knees, flat feet, balanced.
On coach's signal, players jump as high as they can and land in the athletic position, holding still for 2 seconds.
Coach checks landing: knees over toes, no wobbling, quiet feet.
Complete 3 sets of 5 jumps with 30-second rest between sets.
Goal
You've got it when you land with both feet at the same time and hold your balance for 3 seconds, no wobble, no stepping.
Helpful cues
- Jump with your whole body, swing your arms!
- Land soft, like a cat
- Hold your landing, don't wobble
