How it works
Cap emotional recovery time after any mistake to exactly five seconds, then execute the next rep clean.
Your focus
Carrying frustration from one rep to the next is one of the most common performance leaks in sport. This drill trains a specific, timed recovery sequence that interrupts the carry-over loop. The five-second limit makes recovery a deliberate skill rather than a passive process , athletes learn they can choose when to let go.
Complete a rep and make a mistake.
Allow exactly five seconds to feel the frustration, no longer.
On second five, clap once and say 'Next' out loud.
Execute the following rep with zero carry-over from the previous one.
Coach tracks: what percentage of reps received a clean 'Next' within five seconds?
Goal
Player achieves clean next-rep execution on eight of ten consecutive mistakes.
Helpful cues
- Five seconds is enough, after that it's a choice
- The clap is a physical anchor, use it every time
- Carry-over errors are coachable; this is where you start
