How it works

Narrate every action and decision out loud during a drill to build the verbal leadership habit.

Your focus

Silence is the default for most athletes , and silence leaves teams without information they need to succeed. This drill breaks the silence habit by requiring constant verbal output during execution. Athletes who learn to fill space with useful communication become the players their teammates rely on , because they always know what's happening.

1

During a drill, player must call every action they take as they take it.

2

'Going left,' 'I've got it,' 'Coming back,' 'Hold', constant, real-time narration.

3

Coach notes any moment of silence lasting more than three seconds as a miss.

4

After the drill, coach identifies moments where the verbal communication changed or would have changed the outcome.

5

Debrief: what did you learn about your own execution by having to describe it out loud?

Goal

Coach records zero silence gaps longer than three seconds in one full drill.

Helpful cues

  • Silence is not neutral, it's a choice to leave others without information
  • Call it before you do it, not after
  • Your voice is a leadership tool that costs nothing to use
