How it works

Ask one specific, improvement-focused question after every feedback session, not about what went wrong, but about what to do better.

Your focus

Athletes who only receive feedback stay passive. Athletes who ask targeted questions accelerate learning because they're identifying their own gaps. This drill builds the habit of treating every coaching interaction as a two-way exchange, which deepens understanding and signals coachability that coaches reward with more attention.

1

Coach delivers feedback on a rep or drill session.

2

Player must ask ONE genuine follow-up question, about what to do better, not why something went wrong.

3

The question must be specific: not 'how do I improve?' but 'when my timing is off, should I adjust my setup or my movement first?'

4

Coach answers. Player executes the next rep using the answer.

5

After five sessions, player reviews: how did the quality of their questions evolve?

Goal

Coach confirms the question was specific and actionable on four of five attempts.

Helpful cues

  • Specific questions get specific answers
  • If you're not sure what to ask, you haven't processed the feedback yet
  • The question IS the learning, asking it forces synthesis

Adjust the challenge

Make it easier

Strip it back

Player reviews the rep before asking, giving themselves time to identify the gap.

UpLVL it

Add the next challenge

Player must ask a question that references something they observed in their own performance, no generic questions.
