How it works
Maximize compete level under simulated tournament final conditions by playing a full three-set match with full officiating, changeover protocols, and post-match analysis.

Your focus
Replicating the full tournament match experience in practice , including officiating and changeover protocols , removes novelty anxiety so players can compete freely in real tournaments. Players who have 'experienced' high-stakes matches in training perform more reliably under pressure because their nervous system recognizes the environment. Post-match analysis transforms competitive experience into deliberate learning.
Coach sets the scene verbally: 'This is the final of the state championship, same players you will face this weekend.'
Players play a full best-of-three match with complete changeover protocols (90-second rest, ball in hand, official changeover positions).
Coach acts as chair umpire, calling the score after every point and announcing changeovers and set scores formally.
After the match, both players complete a structured compete-level debrief: three things they competed well on, one thing they want to improve, and one specific action for their next match.
Goal
It's real when the simulated match conditions feel uncomfortable and you push through anyway, that feeling means the practice pressure is high enough.
Helpful cues
- Treat this like the real thing, your compete habits in practice become your compete habits in matches
- There are no practice matches and tournament matches, there are only matches
- The player who competes hardest on the worst points of the match usually wins
Adjust the challenge
Make it easier
Strip it back
Play a best-of-three short-set format (first to 4 games) rather than full sets to reduce time while maintaining the competitive structure.UpLVL it
Add the next challenge
Add a small performance consequence (e.g., winner leads the team warm-up the following day) to increase the psychological stakes. No account needed
Build a practice plan
Add drills, keep the plan in this browser, then share a link with your staff or parents. This library helps you find the right drill. Inside UpLVL the right drill finds the player.
After every practice, UpLVL automatically surfaces the drills each player needs to work on most. See it for yourself.
