Your focus
Volley shooting is a high-value skill that creates goal opportunities from crosses and clearances. Early practice with proper technique , side-on body, non-kicking arm for balance, eyes on ball , builds the confidence and mechanics needed for aerial finishing.
Player stands 14 yards from goal facing a server to the side.
Server tosses ball underarm at hip height to the player.
Player strikes volley with laces, keeping body side-on.
5 reps from the right side; 5 from the left.
Progress to half-volleys: server drops ball so player strikes just as it bounces.
Track volleys on target vs. total attempts.
Goal
It's clicking when the ball stays on frame, not sailing over, clean contact on a half-volley or volley means the timing was right, not lucky.
Helpful cues
- Side-on, you can't volley well when facing front-on
- Non-kicking arm out for balance
- Eyes stay on the ball all the way through contact
