How it works

Strike a stationary ball into the goal using the laces with proper technique.

What you need

  • soccer ball
  • goals

Your focus

Learning to strike with the laces develops the power and accuracy needed for effective shooting. Early repetition of correct technique , locked ankle, lean forward, strike through the center , prevents the toe-poking habit that limits shooting quality long-term.

1

Player places ball on the ground 10 yards from a full-size or mini goal.

2

Take 3 steps back and 1 step to the side opposite the kicking foot.

3

Approach at a slight angle; plant foot beside the ball.

4

Lock ankle, lean slightly forward, strike through the ball with the laces.

5

Follow through toward the target.

6

Repeat 10 times; track goals scored.

Goal

You've got it when your foot hits the laces, not the toe, and the ball stays low and on frame. Five clean strikes in a row means you've found the technique.

Helpful cues

  • Plant foot beside the ball, not behind it
  • Toes down, ankle locked, it should hurt a little to wiggle your foot
  • Lean forward, leaning back sends the ball over

Adjust the challenge

Make it easier

Strip it back
