Your focus
Goals in real matches are almost always preceded by combination play. Practicing shooting in the context of a combination , finishing in stride, finishing off the movement , develops the shooting quality needed in actual attacking sequences.
Player A starts 25 yards from goal. Player B is positioned wide as a wall.
A plays to B, makes a run into the box, receives return pass.
A shoots first time on goal.
Vary the combination: wall pass, third-player through B, cross from B.
10 shooting chances from each combination type.
Track quality: first-time shots vs. extra-touch shots; on-target percentage.
Goal
You're there when the combination flows directly into the shot without a reset, the ball leaves your foot within one touch of receiving the wall pass.
Helpful cues
- Run in stride to the ball, arriving in motion adds natural power
- Set up the shot with your first touch, don't take an extra touch to 'settle'
- Pick your corner before you make your run, decide early
