Your focus
Turning under pressure and shooting quickly is one of the most important striker skills. Drilling the receive-turn-shoot sequence develops the technical habits that allow players to create and execute shooting chances from tight situations in real matches.
Player starts 15 yards from goal with back to goal. Passer stands 8 yards behind them.
Passer plays ball to the player's feet.
Player controls, turns using an inside-foot turn or Cruyff, and shoots.
Progress: add a passive defender who stands 2 yards behind the player.
10 reps with right-foot turn; 10 reps with left-foot turn.
Track shooting quality (on target vs. off target).
Goal
Success is turning and getting the shot away before the defender arrives, not stopping to set up, just receiving, turning, and striking in one movement.
Helpful cues
- Decide your turn direction before the ball arrives, save time
- Turn sharp, don't drift or the defender catches you
- Shoot on the half-turn if the defender is close, don't wait for the perfect position
