How it works
Dribble from midfield at speed and shoot into a full-size or marked goal, simulating a breakaway finish.
What you need
- soccer ball
- cones
Your focus
Shooting after a run trains the exact movement pattern of a breakaway or counter-attack. Players must control their body, set their touch, and shoot in one fluid motion.
Place a ball 20 yards from goal (or two cones marking a 6-yard-wide goal).
Player starts 5 yards behind the ball.
Run to the ball, take 2 dribble touches to close the gap, then shoot.
Aim for corners. Do 5 shots left corner, 5 shots right corner.
Score: 2 pts for goal, 1 pt for on target, 0 for off target.
Goal
You've got it when 7 of 10 shots are on target and you're scoring 4+ goals.
Helpful cues
- Approach at an angle, don't run straight at goal
- Last touch sets up the shot, don't reach for it
- Strike through the ball, not at it
