How it works

Complete a challenging dribble and obstacle course with mandatory restarts after each error, building resilience through persistence.

What you need

  • cones
  • soccer ball
  • mini hurdles
  • goal

Your focus

Mandatory restart rules make resilience necessary rather than optional. Players who must retry from the beginning after an error learn to manage frustration and maintain focus across multiple attempts , the exact resilience pattern needed in competitive sport.

1

Set up a set distance obstacle course: slalom cones, mini hurdles to jump, and a final shot on goal.

2

Player must complete all elements. Any knocked cone or knocked hurdle = restart from the beginning.

3

Player tracks how many attempts they need to complete it cleanly.

4

First clean completion earns a mark on their personal record card.

5

Debrief after: how did it feel to restart? What kept you going?

6

Play 3 rounds across the session; track improvement in attempts needed.

Helpful cues

  • Restart is not a punishment, it's a reset
  • The player who completes with 8 tries learned more than the one who did it on attempt 2
  • Take a breath on the restart, go again with fresh focus
