How it works
Read a cue that the press is on and sprint to the correct pressing position immediately.
What you need
- cones
- soccer ball
Your focus
High pressing requires all players to trigger simultaneously from the right positions. Training press triggers individually builds the awareness and sprint habit needed to coordinate in a team press.
Mark three positions: ball position, press trigger position (6 yards from ball), and reset position.
Player starts at reset position.
Parent passes the ball to the ball cone, that's the trigger.
Player sprints from reset to press trigger position and calls 'press'.
10 reps. Track time from trigger to arrival: target under 2 seconds.
Goal
You've got it when you trigger every rep within 0.5 seconds of the pass and arrive in under 2 seconds.
Helpful cues
- Trigger the moment the pass is played, not when the receiver touches it
- Sprint angle cuts off the pass-back option
- Arrive under control, don't overrun the press
