How it works
Receive balls from various directions with the correct body shape, half-turned, body open to the field.
What you need
- soccer ball
Your focus
Players who receive with the wrong body shape give away possession immediately. Learning to position your body before the ball arrives , half-turned to see both the ball and the field , is one of the most transferable skills in soccer.
Parent stands 8 yards away with the ball.
Player starts facing away. On the call 'turn', player turns and parent passes.
Player receives with the correct body shape: half-turned, one shoulder open to field.
After receiving, play a return pass back to parent.
5 reps receiving from the left, 5 from the right, 5 from straight on.
Goal
You've got it when your body shape is correct before ball contact, not after.
Helpful cues
- Get your shoulder open before the ball arrives
- Receive across your body, not to your feet
