Weighted Pass to Target

How it works

Pass to a parent or coach at varied distances, controlling the weight of the pass so it arrives at pace, not too fast, not rolling dead.

What you need

  • soccer ball

Your focus

Passing accuracy is not just direction , it's weight. A ball that arrives too hard forces a bad first touch; too soft invites a press. Training pass weight builds the touch sensitivity needed in game conditions.

1

Parent stands at 8 yards. Player passes. Parent gives feedback: too hard, too soft, perfect.

2

After 5 passes at 8 yards, parent moves to 12 yards. 5 passes.

3

Then 16 yards. 5 passes.

4

Reverse the distances, back to 8. Can the player adjust weight immediately?

5

Do the whole sequence with the weaker foot.

Goal

You've got it when the parent rates at least 4 of 5 passes 'perfect weight' at every distance.

Helpful cues

  • Lean into the pass, follow through toward target
  • Lock the ankle, don't flick
  • Read the distance before you strike
