Your focus
Standing still after passing is a common youth soccer habit that creates static, easy-to-defend attacks. Training the pass-and-move pattern early builds the dynamic possession habit that is fundamental to all fluid team soccer.
Set up a diamond of 4 cones, 10 yards between each. 4 players, one at each cone.
Player A passes to B and runs to B's cone. B passes to C and runs to C's cone. Pattern continues.
Maintain the diamond moving in a circle continuously.
After 2 minutes, reverse direction.
Add a second ball to increase cognitive demand.
Progress to random passing (player calls name) with everyone moving.
Goal
It's clicking when you're moving before the ball arrives, you passed and are already running before they receive it. The circuit stays flowing, not stop-start.
Helpful cues
- Move AS you pass, not after
- Arrive at the new cone before the next pass comes
- Call the name of who you're passing to so they're ready
