How it works

Learn to pass accurately using the inside of the foot through a target gate.

What you need

  • cones
  • soccer ball

Your focus

The inside-foot pass is the most used skill in soccer. Mastering it early with proper technique , locked ankle, striking through the center, follow-through , creates the accuracy foundation that all other passing builds upon.

1

Set up a 1-yard gate (two cones) 8 yards from the player.

2

Player practices passing through the gate using the inside of their foot.

3

Focus: plant foot beside ball, lock ankle, contact center of ball, follow through.

4

Complete 10 passes to the gate; count how many go through.

5

Move gate to 12 yards; repeat 10 passes.

6

Try with the weaker foot: 10 passes at 8 yards.

Goal

You've got it when the ball goes through the center of the gate every time, not clipping the edge, not missing wide. Clean passes only count.

Helpful cues

  • Plant foot points at the target
  • Lock your ankle, a floppy foot is inaccurate
  • Follow through toward the gate after contact

Adjust the challenge

Make it easier

Strip it back

Widen the gate to 2 yards, easier target.

UpLVL it

Add the next challenge

Pass and sprint to the gate; receive the ball back and pass again without stopping.
